Prosthesis/Limb Impairment
Drivers with loss of foot, leg, hand or arm or haver limb deficits are required to have a Skills Performance Evaluation (SPE) Certificate per section 391.49 of DOT regulations. Know what's required before your physical.
With the SPE Certification, it provides information about your specific situation stating there is no impairment of:

-Hand/Finger impairment that interferes with prehension or power grasps
​
-Arm/Foot/Leg impairment that interferes with the ability to perform normal tasks associated with operating a commercial vehicle or other significant limb defect or limitation that interferes with the ability to perform normal tasks associated with operating a CMV or granted Skills Performance Evaluation.

SPE certificates are evaluated by either and Orthopedic doctor or Physiatrist. After this, there is a skills performance through the regional DOT SPE evaluator.
